Who We Are

Men For A Better Lawndale Inc. (MBL) is a grassroots and community-based organization providing transformative education for African-American male youth. Prestigious organizations such as Chicago Public Schools, The Harris Bank Foundation, The Steans Family Foundation and various Lawndale community churches have applauded MBL’s school intervention strategies as an outstanding approach for youth development.

The academic divide that exists between African-American males and their white counterparts prevails well beyond the traditional classroom setting.  Empirical studies indicate that divide now exist in technology, economics and social behavior.  Ultimately, the widening of these divides lead to the destruction of the students self-esteem, confidence employ-ability and ability to be a viable asset to the community.

Through Men for a Better Lawndale, students will have a central and safe platform to constructively interact with peers, parents and adults inside and outside the community.  Participants evolve personally and academically as they develop a sense of accountability to be instrumental in participating in the successful direction of their community,  as well as local and global societies.
